Tepsis[*] Laboratory of Excellency currently offers three one-year postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowships are renewable once.
[*]

Tepsis’ program focuses on three primary lines of research:
- Transformation of the state
- Politicization of society
- Institutionalization of social issues
These three lines of research are subdivided into nine research and teaching areas:
- Historicity of the state
- State weaknesses
- Politics within and beyond the state
- Political time, territorial discontinuity and mobilization
- Everyday relations to politics
- Legitimacy and delegitimation of elites
- Political construction of subjectivities
- The structuring of social order
- Social differentiation and inequality
Research at Tepsis is conducted concurrently with a cross-unit and unifying project, the Encyclopedia of Historical and Social Sciences of Politics (
Encyclopédie des sciences historiques et sociales du politique), which gives concrete expression to the Tepsis teams’ shared research efforts.
Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to devote 50% of their time to a research project relating to one of the nine areas listed above and the other 50% to the realization of the Encyclopedia. This bilingual, online publication is based on historical and social research methods. It is devoted to concepts, tools and reference texts in these areas of research as well as to the most recent controversies.
The three lines of research described above define the general framework for applicants’ research proposals. Thus, proposals from the larger field of “social and historical sciences of politics” – which includes political science, sociology, political philosophy, the history of politics, and political anthropology – will be considered for selection.
Selected postdoctoral fellows will first collaborate with Tepsis members in charge of the Encyclopedia project on the preparation and running of the seminar devoted to it. The Encyclopedia has entered a new phase: its sections have been defined and several articles are being drafted. The fellows’ duties will be to ensure the smooth production of articles and to edit them. They will assist both the scholars in charge of the project and the editorial board. They will also act as an interface between Tepsis research units and other partners in such a way as to elicit new articles from their members. Last, the Encyclopedia’s website is to be created and the first entries posted during the 2014-2015 academic year. Postdoctoral fellows will assist in these tasks.
