Obtain the Master Diploma of a Prestigious European University. Award for three best applications : Tuition Fees and a Fellowship offered.
Blaise Pascal University is opening the second year of its Master of Material Sciences (Nanostructures and Nanophotonics) to scientifically confirmed foreign students. In order to promote this event, the three best applications will have the Tuition Fees offered by the University. A scholarship of a total amount 2000 euros will be offered for the 2nd Semester if the 1st Semester is successful [**].
Eligibility criteria :

  • Students having completed four years of University studies in Physics (Master 1st year successfully finished).
  • Good command of the English language.

Teaching program :
240 hours of advanced theoretical courses including :

  • Light-Matter Interaction in Semiconductor Nanostructures
  • Physics of Advanced Nanostructures
  • Physics of Photonic Crystals : Towards Nanophotonics Physics of Surfaces and Interfaces
  • Physics of Crystal Growth and Nanostructuring
  • Optical and Electronic Spectroscopy of Nanostructures
  • Symmetries in Physics or
  • Medical Applications of Radiation
  • Sensors, Biosensors, and Bio-energies

5 Months of research training in a top research laboratory.
The research training will take place in a laboratory on the Clermont-Ferrand Campus, or elsewhere in Europe. In Clermont-Ferrand, the main host laboratory for the Master students is Institut Pascal, joint research unit of CNRS and University Blaise Pascal, with approximately 300 researchers. The laboratory offers all the modern facilities to conduct high level scientific research. It has been officially ranked A+ (best 10%) among other French labs. The host groups carry out research on a wide range of topics in physics of nanostructures and nanophotonics, offering theoretical, experimental, and technological activities :

  • Optical Spectroscopy of Semiconductor Nanostructures
  • Quantum Optoelectronics and Nanophotonics
  • Nanophotonics and photonic crystals
  • Epitaxial crystal growth by HVPE
  • Surfaces and Interfaces of III-V materials
  • Micro and nano-sensors for different gases

These groups are international leaders in their respective fields, collaborating directly with tens of Universities, Research centers, and companies in the world. They publish about 40 papers each year in journals such as Physical Review Letters, Nature Physics, Physical Review, Applied Physics Letters, Optic Express.
Career perspectives :
The Master diploma of the Blaise Pascal University allows holders to apply to any PhD fellowship in Europe and in the world (US-Japan). Typically 3 or 4 PhD fellowships are available each year at the EDSF, Blaise Pascal University for the students having passed the Master of Physics. The LASMEA is also involved in several Initial Training Networks (e.g. Spin-Optronics, CLERMONT4, INDEX) of the European Union, which are offering in total 40 PhD fellowships over the years 2010-2014. The numerous connections and collaborations of professors and researchers involved in teaching and training for the Master program offer excellent perspectives for obtaining well-financed doctorates.
Application procedure :
The application should contain :

  • A filled registration form
  • a statement of purpose ;
  • a detailed CV (resume) ;
  • a list of University marks for the last 3 years of study and the copies of the diploma obtained (with a certified translation) ;
  • a recommendation letter from your professor (confidential, in a sealed envelope) ;
  • a recent photograph ;
  • a copy of your passport.
